On behalf of WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental
Limited), the Friends of Kent Churches offer grants under the Landfill
Tax Credit Scheme (LTCS). WREN distribute the funds available from the
WRG (Waste Recycling Group) companies, and we cover the part available
to religious buildings.
Grants are potentially available to all
churches and chapels within a 10 mile radius of a WRG landfill site. To
see if your religous building falls into one of the Landfill Tax Credit
Scheme boundaries click
here.
Grants are restricted for specific purposes
set out in Entrust's "Objective E", which covers maintenance,
repair and restoration of places of religious worship (see
note)
To be eligible, buildings must be open to
the public for at least some of the time.
If you have already made an application
for an FKC grant, there is no need to apply separately for a WREN LTCS
grant, since we consider both types of grant together.
Check that you are willing to abide by:
and if so post the following to Margaret
Prevett
- The form (downloadable or obtainable from the
LTCS liaison officer) filled in, either typed or in handwriting in
black ink so that we can photocopy it.
- Consents permissions and agreements
- A copy of your most recently audited accounts.
Please also include the accounts of any associated bodies (eg Friends)
who have the upkeep of the church as their main objective.
- Grants cannot be paid for work that begins before
we register the project with ENTRUST (see timetable below)
For more details, see
note
We offer grants twice a year: at meetings
of the Grants Committee in June and September. The sequence of events
is as follows:
- Applications should be sent to the LTCS liaison officer
by 1st May or 1st November. We will try to fit in applications received
after this if possible. In any case it is as well to send in applications
as soon as they are ready, and to give the LTCS liaison officer warning
of applications to be made near the deadline.
- When we receive your application, we will check it
and probably contact you to discuss the work and your funding. We
do not have formal architectural or financial requirements, leaving
those to your architects and treasurer, and the church and civil authorities.
However we do check that the proposals are sensible and meet ENTRUST
requirements, and we do want to understand your true need. We are
also likely to arrange a visit to see the proposed work and discuss
your finances with you.
- In early June and early December the Grants Committee
meets to consider the applications, and to draw up proposed grant
offers.
- In early July and early January the grant offers are
notified to the Executive Committee, and the LTCS liaison officer
will then let you know of the success of your application.
- When all the requirements for the registration with
the ENTRUST are met (eg consents, permissions and agreements), the
LTCS liaison officer will register your project with ENTRUST. Grants
cannot be paid for projects where work begins before they are registered.
- During the work, ENTRUST may audit your project (see
note)
- When the work has been done, or at least an architect's
certificate has been issued for part of it exceeding the value of
the grant, send a copy of the certificate to the LTCS liaison officer
who will arrange payment to you. If you do not have an architect supervising
the work, please contact the LTCS liaison officer to agree an equivalent
proof that work to the value of the grant has been done satisfactorily.
- Grant offers are valid for one year. If you have not
claimed your grant in that time, the offer will be reviewed and may
be withdrawn if the project is not proceeding.
